xu1541 on Windows 10

As I could not find a usable manual on how to install OpenCBM on a 64 bit version of Windows 10 I decided to write down my findings:

  1. Download latest OpenCBM from THIS page (not THIS!).
  2. Unzip to temporary directory (e.g. the Desktop)arch
  3. Download the latest version of Zadig
  4. Plug in the xu1541 and check if it shows up in the device managerdevman
  5. Run Zadig
  6. Select the xu1541, switch the driver to libusb-win32 and click “Install Driver”zadig
  7. Open up a command prompt as admin by right-clicking on the start button and selecting “Command Prompt (Administrator)”cmd-admin
  8. Change to the temporary directory for OpenCBM and run the command “install.cmd xu1541”. If you want to use a xa1541 or a xum1541 just change the parameter to install.cmdcmd-install
  9. Check if the installation was successful.install-done
  10. Open the system configuration and select the “system” panelsysconf
  11. Click on “Advanced configuration”sysconf2
  12. Click on “Environment variables…”sysconf3
  13. Select “Path” and then “Edit…”sysconf4
  14. Click “New…”sysconf5
  15. Add the path to OpenCBM: “C:\Program Files\opencbm”sysconf6
  16. Click “OK” until all windows are closed again
  17. Switch on the floppy drive, start a command prompt again and try “cbmctrl detect” or (with a disk in the drive) “cbmctrl 8 dir”done
  18. Finally, get QtCBM if you want a graphical interface.qtcbm
